Eagles vs. Washington odds, line, spread: Sunday Night Football picks, predictions from model on 119-77 roll
CBS Sports 2hrs ago

The Washington Football Team lost its final four games last season, with two of the defeats coming on the road. The club's fortunes away from home did not improve this season, as it dropped its first four contests as the visitor. Washington finally has turned things around with three straight road wins and looks to extend the streak when it visits the Philadelphia Eagles in the regular-season finale on Sunday Night Football. Kickoff from Lincoln Financial Field is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.

Why the Washington Football Team can cover

After being unable to make his mark with two different teams over his first four NFL seasons, J.D. McKissic finally may have done so in the nation's capital. The 27-year-old running back from Arkansas State is Washington's second-leading rusher with 365 yards and is third on the team with 559 receiving yards. Both totals are career highs -- as is his reception total of 75, which ranks second on the team.

Despite the fact Washington has lost its last two contests, McKissic has been effective, hauling in a touchdown pass while registering at least 90 scrimmage yards in each game. Antonio Gibson returned last Sunday after missing two contests with a toe injury and gained 61 of his team-leading 720 yards on 10 carries. The 22-year-old, who was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, leads all NFL rookies with 11 rushing touchdowns.

Why the Eagles can cover

Philadelphia may possess the NFL's next great dual-threat quarterback in Jalen Hurts, who took over as the team's starter three weeks ago. The 22-year-old rookie from the University of Oklahoma led the Eagles in rushing with 69 yards while throwing for a career-high 342 in last Sunday's 37-17 setback at Dallas. Hurts joined Michael Vick (2011) as the only QBs in NFL history to record at least 300 yards passing and 50 rushing in consecutive games.

One of Hurts' top options in the Eagles' aerial attack is wide receiver Greg Ward, who leads Philadelphia with six touchdown receptions. In Philadelphia's 33-26 victory over the Cardinals on Dec. 20, Ward hauled in four of five targets and scored two touchdowns. With Dallas Goedert (calf), DeSean Jackson (ankle) and Miles Sanders (knee) out of the lineup on Sunday night, Ward is expected to be one of Hurts' favorite targets.
