Check with your local branch before traveling to confirm the exact hours of operation and any COVID-19 safety restrictions that may be in place.

Here we look at the New Year's Day hours at some fitness chains across the country.

Planet Fitness

Most Planet Fitness gyms are open every day throughout the year, including on New Year's Day. Most branches are typically open 24 hours a day. Contact your local branch to confirm the exact hours of operation for January 1.

The fitness chain has introduced several safety measures amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including a face-covering requirement for all members. Guests can also see how many people are currently at their local branch before visiting using the company's Crowd Meter mobile app.

See the Planet Fitness website for more information on COVID-19 safety at its gyms.

Equinox

Opening and closing times at Equinox gyms vary over holidays. Contact your local branch to confirm the exact hours on New Year's Day.

Equinox also introduced several COVID-19 safety measures, including temperature checks before entry, mask requirements and advanced booking for all gym sessions using the Equinox app.

"Touch-free temperature checks will be required upon each entry to the club. If your temperature is higher than 100.4 degrees, or local guidelines, you will not be permitted to access the club for 3 days from the time of your reading. Equinox may, at its discretion, offer to retest your temperature one time. Please review our full Member Policies addendum for full details," the company said.

Some venues require guests to wear a mask at all times, including during exercise, while others allow guests to remove their masks when exercising.

Crunch Fitness

Some Crunch Fitness locations may be open New Year's Day, while others may be open on reduced hours. Contact your local venue to confirm exact timings for January 1.

COVID-19 safety measures have also been issued at all Crunch Fitness gyms. They include contactless check-in using the Crunch mobile app as well as contactless payment. All staff members will wear face coverings at the gyms, while guests are recommended to do so.

Enhanced disinfecting equipment has also been implemented, including the "airPHX clean air systems" which "uses atmospheric cold plasma to change a small percentage of the oxygen molecules in the air into a unique spectrum of oxidizing molecules that kill bacteria, viruses, and mold," the company noted.

Anytime Fitness

Most branches of Anytime Fitness gyms are open 24 hours a day year-round, but may be on a modified schedule on New Year's Day. Check your local venue for exact hours before visiting.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, "all safety guidelines will be made available upon entrance, throughout the gym, and via digital platforms. Live and video monitoring of clubs will be implemented by each franchisee to ensure protocols are being followed," the company said in a statement updated last month.

Staff are "strongly encouraged to wear masks and gloves at all times whenever provisions are available," while "no contact training and no equipment sharing training sessions" are allowed," the company advised.

Gold's Gym

Gold's Gym hours of operation vary by location. Contact your local venue to confirm exact times for January 1.

The company also implemented several safety protocols amid the ongoing outbreak. "Many of our gyms have reopened with modified hours to allow for additional cleaning and safety measures throughout the day. Capacity limits for workouts and group exercise classes will be determined based on each gym's state and local guidelines," the company said.

"Some locations may have limited operation of water fountains and locker rooms as an additional safety measure," the company added.

24 Hour Fitness

Some 24 Hour Fitness gyms have reopened amid the ongoing pandemic, while others have yet to resume operations. Check your local venue for the exact hours on New Year's Day.

Several COVID-19 safety measures have been issued across 24 Hour Fitness gyms, including amended hours of operations.

The company stated "clubs will close overnight to allow for enhanced cleaning," while "some equipment may be powered off or moved to provide ample space to work out safely.

"Classes will meet at modified times and locations to support social distancing," the company added.
